HANDSCHUH’S PERSPECTIVE: Be Among the First to Receive ‘Aftermarket 2020’ at AASA VisCon

The 2011 AASA Vision Conference (VisCon) is coming up soon on March 29-30 – and I am devoting my column this month to the highlights of our landmark report that will be distributed to attendees: “Aftermarket 2020.”

“Aftermarket 2020” is a groundbreaking report, one which will become an integral part of your company’s strategic planning for the next decade. By attending AASA VisCon, you will be among the first members to receive the free confidential report. Non-attendee members will receive the report by mail in late April.

AASA launched this landmark study to provide senior executives of AASA member companies with a realistic description of the automotive aftermarket in 10 years. The primary goal of “Aftermarket 2020” is to provide an estimate of:
  • The overall size of the automotive aftermarket in 2020, as well as
  • The nature and shares of the various participants within the channels of distribution as they evolve over the course of the decade.
To determine the structural demand in the automotive aftermarket, “Aftermarket 2020” generates forecasts of:
  • Total light vehicles in operation,
  • The number of licensed drivers,
  • Vehicle miles of travel, and
  • The average age of vehicles on the road.
The resulting AASA exclusive report, “Aftermarket 2020,” is unlike any research project available to the aftermarket – and it is available only to AASA members.

To produce this unique publication, AASA recruited a top notch steering committee made up of volunteers from member companies. The group dedicated many hours of effort to the planning, design and implementation of the Automotive Aftermarket 2020 project. This committee selected Booz & Co. as the partner for the Aftermarket 2020 research project.

We have focused AASA VisCon on the report with our theme for 2011: “Aftermarket 2020: Compelling Insights for the Next Decade.” The opening presentation on Wednesday, March 30, will center on an overview of “Aftermarket 2020” by Evan Hirsh, vice president, Booz & Co. Evan will moderate three panel discussions by with AASA members focused on specific areas of the report:
  • Industry Consolidation: Bruce Cole, president, Exide Americas; Joe Pomaranski, vice president, North American aftermarket, Tenneco Inc.; and Dennis Welvaert, president of Dayco Products LLC
  • Part Complexities and Impact on Servicing Vehicles: Craig Breese, president, Consumer Products Group, Honeywell Consumer Products Group; Michael McGrath, president of SKF, VSM Business Unit, NA; and Tom Ward, president, repair systems and information group, Snap-on Inc.
  • Low Cost Country Sourcing: Jay Sanchez, president, Remy Power Products, Remy International Aftermarket Division; Tom Tecklenburg, director, Global Automotive Aftermarket, Timken; and Keith Wilson, president, Affinia Global Filtration, Wix Filtration Products, a division of Affinia Underhood
